How to Reach Neral

Neral, on the Mumbai–Pune Central Railway line, is the base for Matheran. From Mumbai, local trains on the CST–Karjat/Khopoli route take 1.5–2 hrs. From Pune, express trains like Deccan Express and Koyna Express stop at Neral (2.5–3 hrs). By road, take the Mumbai–Pune Expressway and exit toward Karjat–Neral. MSRTC and private buses also connect regularly.

Neral to Dasturi (matheran entry gate)

Dasturi Car Park, 8 km from Matheran, is the last motorable point. Options from Neral:

1. Toy Train

Heritage Neral–Matheran Toy Train (21 km, 2 hrs). In monsoon, only Aman Lodge–Matheran shuttle runs (20 min).

2. Shared Taxis

Fastest option, available outside Neral station. Takes ~30 min, costs ₹80–₹100 per person.

3. Trekking

Scenic routes like One Tree Hill & Dhodani Trail. Takes 2.5–3 hrs, best in groups/daylight.

From Dasturi to Matheran

No vehicles allowed beyond Dasturi. The 2–3 km stretch to Matheran Market can be covered by:

• Walking – 40 min forest trail (Free)
• Aman Lodge Shuttle Train – 15–20 min (₹55/person)
• Horse Ride – ~30 min (₹500/ride)
• Hand Rickshaw – 30–40 min (₹300–₹400/ride)
