Hutatma Chowk

Hutatma Chowk serves as the primary departure point located at the base of Matheran Hill. From here, your journey begins towards the Matheran Entry Gate.

Note: You are currently at Hutatma Chowk and will need to proceed to the Matheran Entry Gate before continuing further.

Transportation Options & Tariff Structure: Ola, Uber, or private taxis are generally not allowed beyond this point to support the local shared van service. If you choose to use Ola, Uber, or a taxi, you will need to pay ₹50 per person. The local shared van service charges ₹100 per person.

Dasturi (matheran entry gate)

The Matheran Entry Gate is the official checkpoint to this hill station, where all visitors must obtain an entry permit. The gateway is marked by vine-covered archways that bloom seasonally, creating a charming first impression of the destination.

Visitors are required to pay an entry fee of ₹50 per person before proceeding. A designated parking area is available near the gate, and from here, you can hire horses or take e-rickshaws for internal transportation within Matheran.

Aman Lodge Railway Station

Aman Lodge Railway Station is the principal departure point for Matheran’s heritage toy train service. The station houses both the ticketing office and the departure platform for the narrow-gauge railway that winds its way to Matheran.

Passengers are advised to check the official railway timetable for departure and arrival schedules. Tickets are issued 45 minutes before departure, with a limit of four tickets per passenger. There is no advance or online booking option, and the fare is ₹55 per seat.

Matheran Hill Station

Matheran, whose name comes from the Marathi phrase meaning “forest on the forehead,” is Asia’s only automobile-free hill station. It is celebrated for its unspoiled natural beauty, fresh air, and sweeping views of the Western Ghats.

The hill station boasts 38 officially designated viewpoints, a year-round pleasant climate, and exceptional biodiversity within its protected forest areas. Adding to its charm is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed railway that connects it to the plains.
